Fabulous tool from the folks at GE…bringing good things to life
The below image is a snapshot of a new interactive “wheel” tool released by GE to help understand and analyze the cost of delivering healthcare. Please visit the link above to “play” with it. This tool is an interactive wheel where one can select the age and see within the wheel the proportionate total and relative incidences and costs of various common conditions within the United State. Click on a condition and the application shows you the total and average annual personal and insurer cost of treating this particular condition for this particular age group. It also gives you the sample size from which the data was drawn The Medical expenditure Panel Survey. Amazing application which should be made ubiquitous so that information can not only be seen for the U.S. (the outlier cost wise) but comparisons of incidences and costs can be made on a country to country basis. Providers and insurers beware; the drive to understand the drivers of health care costs persist and I believe have sufficient momentum now to be unstoppable. Time to extract efficiencies in your business models. Emerging markets like China and India would be wise to not have to re-invent the wheel and implement the infrastructure of this program now as they are investing in their health care infrastructures.
